Each week, the Archives features a woman who has been a groundbreaker at the Smithsonian, past or present, in a series titled Wonderful Women Wednesday.
Jacqueline Hicks Grazette was the Assistant Director for Educational Services at the National Air and Space Museum, the first African American woman in that role, from 1993 to 1997. Between 1986 and 1992, Grazette was the Program Manager for the African American Studies Center in the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program. During her time at the Institution, Grazette managed staff, helped launch the Museum’s first website from the education department, and established partnerships to create science and history education programs for Washington, D.C. metropolitan-area schools (K-12).
Grazette earned a bachelor’s degree and a master of business administration degree from Harvard University.
Archives staff will dedicate time to identify photographs of Grazette in our collections when we are safely back in the office.
