Each Monday, sit back, relax, and ease into the work week with puzzles created from images in our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse these images as part of Smithsonian Open Access, launched in 2020.
This week’s puzzle features United States Post Office employees at the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition, held in Nashville between May and October in 1897. The Smithsonian hosted an exhibit at the exhibitions that was divided into various categories: mammals, reptiles, fishes, mollusks, insects, marine invertebrates, comparative anatomy, paleontology, geology, ethnology, prehistoric anthropology, and technology.
The U.S. Post Office also hosted an exhibit at the exposition. It displayed stamps and equipment, but also explosive bombs, weapons, tarantulas and reptiles, and poisonous substances sent through the mail.
